Farmhouse kitchen design is simple, conjuring up a taste of American heritage.
Charming historic features and elements of nature are commonly found in today’s modern farmhouse kitchens. We have detailed some of the elements we most commonly integrate into our farmhouse kitchen designs.
Humble Details
Country-style decorating can draw its inspiration from French, English, Swedish, American, and other cultural influences. However, pieces from different periods and traditions blended in one home, as long as comfort is the principal ingredient, are key to the charm of a farmhouse kitchen.
Farm Flooring
Wide-plank reclaimed wood flooring captures the farmhouse aesthetic. All of our reclaimed wood floorings is 100 percent from old barns, agricultural buildings, and rural structures from in and around Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Whether you prefer the subtle, rich tones of walnut or the vivid, old-world aesthetic of rustic oak, the variety of tones, grains, and textures we offer will match any taste.
Cabinets with Functionality and Character
We handcraft cabinetry that is versatile, multi-functional, and strong enough to stand up to rigorous use. Showcasing your collection of charming country china is an important esthetic element; you can be guaranteed that elegance and styling are not eliminated by the craftsmen who create our custom cabinetry, but simplicity, strength and functionality all have to play an equally important role in the design.
Farmhouse Sink
The apron sink is timeless and always looks right in an old house or country-style kitchen. The depth of the basin is practical and fits perfectly with the latter 19th and early 20th-century farmhouse kitchen decorating. In days past, the kitchen sink needed to be deep enough to accommodate the large pots used to prepare meals for large farm families. Our customers find one large basin to be more practical than the traditional double sink because what they do wash in it is big … pots, pans, pets and babies. They leave the smaller items for the dishwasher.
Heirloom Farm Table
Your kitchen table is the hardest working piece of furniture you’ll find in your home. Our craftsmen take care to create an heirloom quality table that is customized for your taste and lifestyle. We craft our farm tables from only the finest hand-selected reclaimed wood, antique oak barn “thresher floor”, antique oak barn siding, tabaccowood pine, antique wormy chestnut, rustic walnut, rustic cherry, horse country oak, and antique poplar are the most authentic and beautiful woods to work with.
Historic Architectural Accents
We painstakingly salvage old barns and agricultural buildings to reclaim wood, stone, tin, and square nails. These architectural accents are ideal for farmhouse kitchen decorating. Distressed or worn ceiling beams, patinas, hand-carved panels, rough stone, and plastered walls, and stone floors are all favorite architectural details of farmhouse kitchen decorating.
